DESCRIPTION:
Set in the Everest region of Nepal, Beyond the Summit has something for everyone: an Everest expedition from the Sherpa point of view, avalanches and storms, yaks, Sherpa culture, Buddhist and animistic rituals, a love affair between an American journalist and Sherpa guide.. Fiction
With a BA in literature and a Masters in Library Science, she combined her love of books, other cultures, and research skills to pen the first fiction written about Sherpas. High in the Himalayas during the worst storm in memory, she was appalled by world press coverage of the many foreigners who died but no mention of the Sherpas who also perished. She began organizing and leading treks to the Everest Base Camp t
The two weather cultural misunderstandings, disapproval, jealousy, separation, self-seeking tourists, and deadly winter storms to find love across the cultures. She has brought along a top photographer, Eric, who is also her longtime boyfriend. However, harrowing mountain climbing expeditions and intricate family dramas complicate their hidden romance. News reports about Mount Everest always focus on Western climbers. And it is, furthermore, a darn good read. The novel follows Beth, an intrepid and comely young American journalist who travels to Nepal in the early days of tourism in the Himalayas once-forbidden kingdom. The book is not only a traditional love story, it is also an ode to the humanity of the Sherpas, so often belittled and overlooked in Himalayan climbing dramas. This detailed look at the culture, beliefs, and traditions of the Sherpas and their difficult lifestyle is especially rich because it comes from one who knows it well. -Boulder Daily Camera --Boul

Leahy said A Must Read for Outdoor Adventurers. This fictional story about the Sherpas of the Mt. Everest region of Nepal is highly entertaining and informative. I am planning a trek to Everest base camp and this book provided invaluable insight into my future experience. I have become very interested in the Sherpa culture, food, religion, etc. since reading this book. (Prayer flags fly from my balcony now). Linda does a good job telling about the Everest experience from the Sherpas. A view from the top of the World Dannie Hill I found Beyond the Summit: An Everest Adventure and Romance by Linda LeBlanc a great tale about a place and people I've always wanted to know more about. Ms. LeBlanc is well qualified to give an accurate view of life and conditions in Nepal, having been there many times and a guide to the Everest basecamp. She spins this knowledge into a wonderful story of adventure and romance. The adventure and romance takes place in Nepal where the m
