Great overview for readers new to apocryphal texts John Crossan is an excellent choice for those who are relatively new to the field of Biblical studies, on in this case, the study of Apocryphal texts. He gives excellent information with plenty of depth, but this doesn't go into nearly as much detail as, say, his complete work on the Gospel of Peter. This is an accessible, interesting read.
This book is about four other gospels, the Gospel of Thomas, the Secret Gospel of Mark, the Gospel of Peter, and Egerton Papyrus 2. But the thesis of this book is that anyone who takes the four other gospels seriously and thoughtfully will never again be able to read the four canonical gospels in quite the same way.
