Creating them? Ah, that’s the focus of this book; a far more resonant subtitle might be How to Harness Purposeful Bets. He sets the stage for reader endorsements of his principles through tales of random successes, for instance Obama’s rapid rise after his keynote at the 2004 Democratic National Convention and Stephenie Meyer’s evolution of a dream into the Twilight saga. Johansson actually borrows some techniques and tools from the creative world, especially following one’s curiosity to spotting momentum and intensity. A bit of science, a lot of psychology, a touch of wannabe Malcolm Gladwell, and the courage to click. Designed to become a best-seller.
. Raised in Sweden by his African American/Cherokee mother and Swedish father, he now speaks to audiences worldwide and runs an innovation consulting firm, the Medici Group. Frans Johansson is the bestselling author of The Medici Effect. He lives in Brooklyn
Great book that avoids cliched solutions personalnjc I read author's first book and had an opportunity to hear him speak. This book suggests ways to take advantage of an unpredictable world. It first explodes the myth that many successful companies are the result of careful analysis, data gathering and planning. So many successful endeavors are actually a product of serendipity and the author provides numerous examples. The task, then, is to optimize one's chances to succeed in such an environment. I like that the author does not give pat answers, but instead focuses on behaviors that can improve one's c. The method Johansson's first book The Medici Effect defined how great ideas are formed, this book tells you how to do it. You can't read one without the other.. Perfect Gift for Unemployed Smart People I am a 60-year old unemployed person with no pensions, and received this book as a gift. It came to me as I am in the middle of writing what I hope will be a seminal work on the future of public governance, and to my enormous surprise, not only has the book been a "pick me up" of a read for me as the unemployed guy, it has also been relevant to my new book. The author's core message is: the world is random, embrace that, seek out as much random as you can handle, be alert for "aha" moments, and act instantly to take advantage when such moments occur. At
In the story of every great company and career, there is one defining moment when luck and skill collide. Consider how Diane von Furstenberg saw Julie Nixon Eisenhower on TV wearing a matching skirt and top, and created the timeless, elegant wrap-dress.That was a “click moment” of unexpected opportunity. Johansson uses stories from throughout history to illustrate the specific actions we can take to create more click moments, place lots of high-potential bets, open ourselves up to chance encounters, and harness the complex forces of success that follow.. This book is about making that moment happen.According to Frans Johansson’s research, successful people and organizations show a common theme. A lucky moment occurs and they take advantage of it to change their fate
