DESCRIPTION:
R. Pearce said Language Logic and Persuasion Book. I bought this book for an online philosophy class and I found it to be a good read. Definitely helped me to better understand argumentation and assess their strength. I think Hughes does a good job of presenting the subject matter so anyone could understand it. He gives a lot of tools for assessing arguments. This is a good book for someone to read who is interested in a career in Law. I will probably keep this book and finish reading the rest of the chapters we didn't go over in the class before trading it in.. Critical thinking textbook For my critical thinking class in college, but I'm sure that's why you are getting it! A hard book to get through without lecture though!. Garett Hiester said Five Stars. Great Product! Just as I expected!
Hughes, Lavery, and Doran give a thorough treatment of such traditional topics as deductive and inductive reasoning, logical fallacies, the importance of inference, how to recognize and avoid ambiguity, and how to assess what is or is not relevant to an argument. Last but not least, Critical Thinking includes a selection of logical paradoxes and puzzles that are as entertaining as they are enlightening. The authors also cover less traditional topics such as special concerns to keep in mind when reasoning about ethical matters, and how the nature of a language can affect the structure of an argument. William Hughes's Critical Thinking, recently revised and updated by Jonathan Lavery and Katheryn Doran, is a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the essential skills required to make strong arguments. In addition to covering
